Course

Exposure Exposed: Trust the Number

Ended Dec 31, 2020

Full course description

Course Introduction

With the implementation of digital radiography, radiographers are now able to quantify image receptor exposure. However, many radiographers do not have a full understanding of the importance of the exposure indicators and their impact on image quality. This presentation will discuss the importance of EI and S numbers and impact overexposure and underexposure have on image quality through image analysis. Additionally, direction will be provided on how to correct exposure on an image that does not have the correct exposure indices.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, you will be able to:

  • Describe the effects of IR exposure on images
  • Define the similarities and differences between exposure indices
  • Explain how adjusting the mAs influences IR exposure
  • Distinguish resolution differences of workstations vs. radiologist monitors
  • Identify noise on digital images
  • Apply mAs adjustments to images with noise
