Course Introduction
Digital radiography systems now dominate the radiography profession, yet many professionals continue to analyze images as if film-screen systems are still in use. This presentation provides a concise and clear approach to digital image analysis using the four traditional image quality factors.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- Explain how digital image analysis differs from film-screen image analysis.
- Define digital image quality factors.
- Discuss the use of proper terminology related to digital image analysis.
- Discuss the issues regarding establishing standardized terminology in the radiologic sciences.

Meet the Speaker
Vesna Balac, Ed.D., R.T. (R)(MR) is the Program Director for the Radiologic Sciences Program at Indiana University-Northwest in Gary, Indiana. She started her career in medical imaging 15 years ago as a Radiological Technologist and added Magnetic Resonance Imaging shortly thereafter. Dr. Balac is co-author of Principles of Radiographic Imaging: An Art and a Science. (6 th ed.) and chapter editor for Introduction to Radiologic Sciences and Patient Care. As a Clinical Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean, she developed and redesigned many courses in both the Radiologic and Medical Imaging Programs. She is currently a member in good standings with 5 different associations, participated in many creative activities, and earned several scholarships. Dr. Balac also received several teaching awards including her two nominations for IU Northwest Founder’s Day Teaching award. She was elected Vice-President of the Indiana State Radiologic Technology Society in 2018.
