Course Introduction
Healthcare institutions are critical community infrastructures that face constant threats from outside and inside. Radiological services and technologists play an essential role in helping healthcare institutions prepare and respond to threats and disasters. Multiple opportunities exist for departmental and individual involvement to help prepare and respond. What can you do to prepare yourself and your organization?
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
- Identify four key threat areas to the healthcare environment and their impact on radiology services.
- Discuss traditional hospital response and use of radiological services.
- Outline opportunities for radiological technologists’ involvement in disaster preparedness.

Meet the Speaker
Justin Mast, MA, BSN, RN, CEN, FAWM is a Clinical Lecturer and Instructor for the Paramedic Science, Department of Emergency Medicine at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in addition to his role as Manager of Emergency Preparedness and Response at Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Health Hospital. In addition, he serves as the Team Lead for the Indianapolis Radiologic/Nuclear Detection Task Force. Mr. Mast earned his Master of Arts in Emergency and Disaster Management. He has been deployed for a myriad of disaster response activities worldwide and completed numerous disaster and emergency specialization training sessions. He authored several published articles with his most recent titled "Ebola: Practicing the unknown in Sierra Leone." Mr. Mast’s academic projects include a host of conference presentations, poster presentations, multimedia projects, as well as IRB approved research.
