Course summary:
Public engagement should occur at all levels of the planning process. This course focuses on the importance of and methods for getting input from the general public. It will also help you identify which of those methods would be the best fit for your agency and when to use them in the planning process. At the end of the course you will have the opportunity to create a simplified public engagement plan for one of your tourism planning efforts. This course will show you the importance of public engagement and provide you with the necessary tools to help you design your own public engagement plan.
Course objectives:
After completing this course, learners should be able to:
- Describe the importance of public engagement for parks and recreation and tourism.
- List the principles of successful public engagement and coalition leadership techniques.
- Describe why public engagement is important to tourism and recreation planners.
- Define the key elements of a public engagement plan.
