Course summary:
How do you learn about your audience? Once you know more about them, how do you know how best to interpret for them effectively? This course will help interpreters at all levels of experience learn who their audience is and appropriate techniques for successful interpretation with sensitivity and respect for all groups.
Course objectives:
After completing this course, learners should be able to:
- Compare characteristics of audiences from diverse backgrounds, noting features like age, nationality, ability, and culture.
- Describe how to gain relevant knowledge about various audiences.
- Discuss different techniques appropriate for interpreting for unique audiences.
- Recognize ways to manage your audience.
Recommended background:
It is recommended that students taking this course have experience in interpretation. There are no required prerequisites, but it is recommended that students complete the free Foundations of Interpretation course prior to taking this one.
