Course Introduction
Part 3 | This series of modules is designed to provide teachers with tools to implement and reflect on equitable and inclusive teaching practices. We will explore the question of how we can improve our learning environments through implementing and reflecting on equitable and inclusive lessons. The purpose of this series is to help educators advance their practices to foster more equitable and inclusive learning spaces through applhying Asset-Based Instruction, Authentic Multiple Modes, and Mirrors and Windows.
Each module should take approximately 3 hours to complete. Participants will earn 3 PGP hours and a certificate for each module completed. These modules can be completed as stand-alone modules or as a series with an optional micro-credential assessment that leads to a professional badge.
Learning Outcomes
After completing the modules, you will be able to:
Module 1: Which Learning Experiences Serve as Windows and Mirrors in Education?
- Analyze teaching strategies that provide mirrors and windows.
- Adapt and implement teaching strategies in your practice.
- Reflect on the results of implementing mirrors and windows teaching activities.
Module 2: What Do Authentic Multiple Modes Look Like?
- Create lessons that provide authentic experiences for learners.
- Build a lesson that presents content in a vareity of modes.
- Build a lesson that allows students to express their learning in various ways.
Module 3: How are Student Assets Leveraged in the Curriculum?
- Analyze existing lessons and discover where deficit or assets-based frames were used.
- Create or adapt lessons that build upon student assets.
Micro-credential Assessment Module: Vignettes to Promote Reflective Practices
- Describe how various sensory inputs influence a student' classroom experience.
- Utilize an assets-based framework, multiple modalities, and mixed windows and mirrors to enact reflective practices to evaluate the inclusivity of my practices.
- Implement descriptive language to create an immersive case study.
