Course Introduction

Supporting youth for any purpose is hard work. It requires a special passion and commitment to their success, along with an ongoing willingness to learn about current issues and challenges. This course is designed to provide you connections to this information and an opportunity to identify additional areas where you can learn.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the modules, you will be able to:

  • Outline the 5 dimensions of wellness
  • Identify how each domain can impact individuals across middle and late childhood, as well as early and middle adolescence.
  • Identify ways in which youth you engage with are impacted by life-changing events (i.e. COVID, chronic illness, loss of family members, exploitation) and the disruption of brick and mortar teaching.

Meet the Instructors

Dr. Deb is an Associate Clinical Professor in the IU School of Public Health-Bloomington. A member of the Department of Applied Health Science her focus is on preparing competent youth workers who are prepared to support the positive development of youth. She takes pride working alongside students in community engagement with youth and youth work administrators across the country. When not focused with her classes, Dr. Deb focuses on the prevention of child sexual exploitation, the distribution of child sexual abuse imagery, and human trafficking. As a mom of three adult children. and a faculty member in the School for 28 years, she understands the challenges, responsibilities, and the rewards that come with supporting youth.
