 Course Introduction

The goal of the course is to give faculty tools to help better mentor graduate students. The modules include information on establishing and aligning expectations, maintaining effective communication, assessing understanding, fostering independence, challenges faced by mentors, addressing equity and inclusion, and the ethics of mentoring. A typical module asks you to read or listen to material on a specific mentoring topic and then reflect upon specific cases or scenarios related to that topic. Ideally, you will draw from those reflections in order to develop your personal mentoring approach.

Meet the Instructor

Sean Nicholson-Crotty is a Paul H. O'Neill Professor in the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He is also Director of the Graduate Mentoring Center for the University Graduate School. Sean can be reached at seanicho@iu.edu.
