Full course description

The course aims to equip TAs with valuable resources, ensure their understanding of university policies (including FERPA, Sexual Misconduct and other legislations), introduce them to their roles and strategies and resources for student-centered and pedagogical wellness-minded teaching practices, and provide guidance on utilizing University Library effectively. TAs will gain practical skills and knowledge that enhance their teaching effectiveness and contribute to student success.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities, and ethical guidelines for teaching assistants at IU Indianapolis.
  • Identify student-centered teaching practices that help all students while keeping in mind their own wellness.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in navigating and utilizing the university library’s website effectively.


Module Topics

There are 3 required modules in this course and 3 supplemental. The required modules cover the following topics:

  1. Policies and Procedures for Teaching Assistants (legal requirements)
  2. Teaching at IU Indianapolis for student success and pedagogical wellness
  3. Using the University Library

The optional modules include the following:

  1. Overview of Using Canvas by Topic
  2. General TA Resources
  3. International TA resources
