Course Introduction
This course introduces the tools and underlying framework of CANS and ANSA, provides instruction on completing the CANS and ANSA, and includes information on how to prepare for the certification test and use the tools in practice.
This course was collaboratively developed by the Indiana University School of Social Work (IUSSW) and the John Praed Foundation. Funding was provided by The Division of Mental Health and Addiction, Indiana Family and Social Services Administration.

Course Designers
- Betty Walton, Ph.D., LCSW, Associate Research Professor, has collaborated with the Praed Foundation since 2006 to support CANS and ANSA training, certification, and implementation.
- Saahoon Hong, Ph.D., Assistant Research Professor, joined the IUSSW team in August 2019 and completed the Praed Foundation's Train-the-Trainer certification that year. He has co-facilitated workshops since 2020.
- Stephanie Moynihan, MSed, Project Coordinator for Indiana CANS/ANSA Training & Technical Assistance, has co-facilitated workshops for SuperUsers for more than six years.
- Janna Hitzeman-Crampton, Course Designer & Instructional Technology Specialist, Office of e-Social Work Education & Practice, IUSSW, has 10+ years experience in online course design and development.
