Course Introduction

During this course, participants will learn about the chronic health condition diabetes and how to affects children. They will also discover DCS health care policy and their obligations and limitations in providing health care to a child in out-of-home care.

Module Topics

This course covers the following topics:

  • Defining DCS Health Care Policy and resource parent/ kinship caregiver responsibilities
  • Defining diabetes, including symptoms, diagnosis, causes, and treatments
  • Managing diabetes in collaboration with the child and biological family

The Indiana Child Welfare Education & Training Partnership is designed to provide high quality social work education and statewide training for public child welfare employees. It provides BSW students with preparation for employment as a Family Case Manager; it allows DCS employees to enroll in the School's part-time MSW Program; and it provides state-of-the-art training to current DCS employees. This partnership is recognized nationally for its success and for its joint collaborative operation.
