Full course description
Welcome to the Luddy School's makerspace safety orientation and training modules. Whether you're taking a class, using our makerspaces to aid your research, or just because you enjoy making, we want to extend to you a warm welcome. This series of certifications is designed with both information and safety in mind. Completion of the training should allow you to safely and successfully access lab resources.
This certification series is expected to take approximately two hours. Keep in mind that this is a self-paced course; you can come back however many times you need.
There are 11 modules each with several assignments and a final Liability Waiver that you will be required to sign.
- Begin at "Orientation to Makerspaces" in the "Intro to Makerspaces Module"
- Click the "Next" button to proceed through each following assignment.
- Within each module follow the content in the embedded assignments.
- The assignments consist of text-, graphical-, and video-based information relating to general space and equipment safety.
- Each assignment set ends with a brief quiz.
- You will need to pass in order to continue with the training assignments within the modules.
- When you have completed all assignments in the modules you will arrive at the Liability Waiver.
- Your essential safety orientation/training is complete when you sign and submit the Liability Waiver.
*To finalize your laser cutter use certification you will need to receive a hands-on training on laser cutter operations. That can occur through a makerspace oriented course you may be enrolled in, or a walk-in training with a technician at Protolab (or LLC Innovative Lab for LLC residents) during tech operated hours.
