Course Overview
Furthering the commitment of Public Health & YOU to provide education on a wide variety of public health topics, we’re pleased to introduce our new webinar series. Each month, you’ll learn from an IU School of Public Health-Bloomington expert about a specific public health topic. Our goal is to foster community engagement in public health and provide important, relevant and useful information to those in our community.Learning Outcomes
By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:
- Understand the key elements of the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
- Recognize basic facts about Ebola Virus Disease and infectious desiease transmission.
- Be able to explain the definition of and develop an awareness of infectious diseases of public health significance (IDPHS).
- Emphasize education on disease transmission and the environmental persistence of organisms.
- Identify how workers in affected industries may be exposed.
Meet the Instructor
Shawn Gibbs, PhD, MBA, CIH
Shawn Gibbs, PhD, MBA, CIH is Executive Associate Dean and Professor with the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington. Shawn has over a hundred peer reviewed papers in industrial hygiene and environmental exposure assessment, focusing on environmental microbiology and disrupting transmission of highly infectious diseases. His research has helped determine national policies, procedure, and best practices to treat patients with Ebola virus disease and other highly infectious diseases; including patient transportation, waste handling/disposal, patient discharge, patient remains, PPE donning and doffing, decontamination, etc.
Aurora Le, MPH
Aurora Le's areas of research include highly infectious diseases and occupational safety & health, with a focus on training and education. Ms. Le is the Project Coordinator and Educational Specialist of the Biosafety and Infectious Disease Training Initiative (BIDTI), a National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Worker Training Program. She is also an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Applied Health Science.

In order to receive a certification of completion with continuing education (CEU), you must enroll in the course. Also, you must score 80% or higher on the Assessment.
