About the Webinar

The Public Health Competency Development Series is presented by the IU School of Public Health's Office of Public Health Practice and the Office of Career Services. This annual continuing education series incorporates direct feedback from SPH-B graduates and public health professionals on desired areas of additional training. Each course will focus on sharpening skills for a specific component of the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals.

This course will on focus the topic of budgeting as it relates to public health. Specifically, our presenter will discuss the budget/resource allocation process in public health organizations, and the role of the budget in the decision-making process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the budget allocation and construction process for an organization or program;
  2. Identify two tools and strategies for budgetary administration in public health.

Meet the Instructor

Dr. David Skirvin

David Skirvin, Ed.D, is a former Assistant Dean of the Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington and current Adjunct Lecturer with the School. David served as the Chief School Fiscal Officer for over 20 years. He is currently the instructor of two graduate level finance courses; Course objectives are designed to enable students to gain an understanding of practical financial tools that can be applied in public health, recreation, sport, and leisure-oriented work settings.
