About the Training
This online course is part of the Training Series for Disordered Gamblers. This course will focus on preparing disordered gamblers to seek out programs and treatment. The course content delves into explaining how a disordered gambler enters treatment, engaging and assessing a disordered gambler for a treatment plan, evaluation for co-occurring addictions and mental health concerns, supporting a therapeutic relationship, understanding the core condition of treatment, and comparing internal versus external motivations.
Dr. RonSonlyn Clark, Senior Director of Substance Use Disorder and Prevention at RiverValley Behavioral Health, is a licensed professional counselor and ICGC-II, BACC. Dr. Clark shares her insights and experiences as an expert in the field. As you work through the disordered gamblers training courses, you will be guided in evidence-based research and trends related to problem gambling. You will have the opportunity to study case-based scenarios and apply current treatment standards. This program is designed to advocate toward improving the lives of problem gamblers, their loved ones, and the communities in which they live.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this training module you will be able to:
- Describe trauma and how it affects a person over the lifespan.
- Assess the neurodevelopmental view of childhood trauma.
- Select practical tools to identify trauma as it relates to disordered gambling.
- Explain the brain’s role in trauma and addiction.
How to Get a CEU Certificate
In order to receive a certificate of completion with Continuing Education Units (CEUs), you must enroll in each section of the course. This course is not for credit with Indiana University. Also, you must score 80% or higher on the course assessment. The cost for each section of the course is $22 for 1.5 CEUs. Indiana residents and providers can complete the course for free.
