Introduction to Youth Fitness and Health

Ended Dec 31, 2017

Full course description

The main focus of this introductory online course is to enhance your role as a physical educator. This initial, two-week course will prime you for the other courses, briefly presenting an overview of important topics within physical education, including Youth Fitness, Nutrition, Technology, Assessment, Health Education, and Adapted Physical Education, just to name a few. We will explore the latest information and tools used by educators across the state, examine a variety of resources and communicate with each other for new ideas.

Each of these topics is also available in its own stand-alone course which provides more in-depth coverage and ideas for application. Our hope is to share the most current information within each topic and allow you to apply the information as best suits your role as a classroom, community or policy leader.

Guiding Questions:

What tools are you using now?

What documents or readings do you currently include in your program?

What strategies do you currently employ to collaborate with other physical educators?

At the end of this course in Youth Fitness and Health education, you should be better able to

1.      Explore the latest information and tools used by educators across the state, examine a variety of resources and communicate with each other for new ideas.

2.      Incorporate the CDC guidelines into the Physical and Health Education programs and policies in your school environment.

3.      Exchange strategies and resources with participants in this course to add to your teaching library.
