Full course description

Course Introduction

Introduction to Contemporary Slovakia will provide you with basic knowledge about the history, politics, social norms, and customs in today’s Slovakia. You will learn about famous figures often referenced in conversation and place names, like Ľudovít Štúr, Cyril and Methodius, and Svätopluk, whose statue guards the famous Bratislava Castle. This course will introduce you to the colorful world of Slovak politics and provide you strategies for navigating conversations about politics, art, and culture in everyday life. If you utilize the knowledge of Slovak social norms presented here, you’ll likely make a good impression on hospitable Slovaks who invite you into their homes for a meal, and you’ll be comfortable dining in a restaurant.
