Course Introduction

The Introductory Module on Contemporary Estonia will introduce important facts about Estonia and the Baltics, and it will provide an overview of Estonia’s recent history. The module will also discuss how Estonia fits into regional politics, specifically, its relations with Russia. The module concludes with some helpful does and don’ts for students traveling to Estonia.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Recognize the most important events in Estonia's recent history.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Estonia’s regional politics and relations with Russia.
  • Recognize and enact some of Estonia’s cultural norms.

Meet the Instructor

Photo of Dr. Jennie Schulze

Dr. Jennie Schulze is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Duquesne University, where she teaches classes in comparative politics and international relations. Her research interests include the influence of European institutions and kin-states on minority integration and minority rights in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as how cultural, structural, and social variables effect minority integration and democratic participation.
