In this course, you can expect to learn everything to take your climbing skills to the next level. Ever wonder how people climb the tallest walls in the world? This training will teach you the fundamental skills to start this journey. You can expect to learn multi-pitch belaying and climbing, traditional climbing techniques, and advanced rope management skills. This course is designed for anyone who wants to learn more about climbing or start their epic climbing career off right!

Challenge Description:

Despite the fact that many IU Outdoor Adventures trips are designed for beginners*, there are still inherent risks associated with the challenges of certain outdoor activities. We want to provide you with an unbiased perspective of what those challenges are so you may make an educated decision regarding your participation.

*This rock climbing course requires no prior experience with multi-pitch climbing. However, there are pre-requisites (listed below) that you are expected to comply to in order to fully participate.

You can expect to hike multiple miles per day (~4) as well as climb some of California's tallest peaks! You should be comfortable climbing easy rock climbs and in reasonable shape for these activities. You must also be able to carry a ~40 lb backpack. Keep in mind you'll also be using the bathroom outdoors, sleeping on the ground outside, and living in a communal campground for the week.

Mental challenges vary by individual. Participants should be prepared for group interaction with limited time alone. The group will spend many days in backcountry areas that will require the group cohesion and teamwork.
