About the Course

This lecture will discuss soft tissue disorders of the orbit, including preseptal and orbital cellulitis, dacryoadenitis, dacryocystitis, canaliculitis, orbital fat prolapse, thyroid eye disease, and orbital inflammatory pseudotumor. It will review the orbital anatomy and explore exam techniques and additional testing to properly diagnose these disorders. Finally, it will discuss treatment and management options for these disorders.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review the anatomy of the orbit and how it relates to certain disorders, such as preseptal and orbital cellulitis, dacryoadenitis, dacryocystitis, canaliculitis, orbital fat prolapse, thyroid eye disease, and orbital inflammatory pseudotumor.
  2. Recognize the presentation and diagnostic testing needed to accurately diagnose these disorders.
  3. Understand treatment options for orbital soft tissue disorders, including a review of orbital antibiotic options and radiological imaging

Meet the Instructor

Larissa Krenk, OD

Larissa Krenk joined the IU School of Optometry as a clinical assistant professor in primary care services at the Indianapolis Eye Care Center in 2022. She had served the previous two years as an adjunct clinical lecturer for the school and also completed her primary care residency with IUSO in 2020. She received her Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Krenk primarily teaches in the primary care service at the Indianapolis Eye Care Center, consulting with 4th-year optometry students and has an interest in posterior segment ocular disease. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the American Optometric Association and Indiana Optometric Association.
