Full course description
This course is designed to help you synthesize your foundational knowledge of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and bridge the gap between theory and practice in teaching English for workplace contexts.
Through two focused modules, you will explore the process of course development and engage in hands-on application, including syllabus design and lesson planning.
By the end of the course, you will have the tools and confidence to create effective effective English in the Workplace programs tailored to real-world professional needs.
This course contains two modules of multiple units, with "check-in" quizzes at the end of each module. Completion of this course should take approximately 5-7 hours.
Learning Objectives
- Design ESP Syllabi for Workplace Needs: Create a complete English for Specific Purposes (ESP) syllabus tailored to the linguistic and communicative demands of a specific workplace or professional context. This includes defining learning objectives and aligning content with authentic tasks and real-world communication scenarios.
- Develop Effective Lesson Plans with Authentic materials: Construct lesson plans that incorporate authentic materials, workplace documents, and realistic activities to promote targeted language use.
- Analyze and Critique Real-World ESP Models through Case Studies: Examine and explore practical English for the workplace course design models, including a detailed case study in engineering and nursing.
Note: For additional context, we recommend that you complete the Overview of Teaching English for Specific Purposes course prior to -- or alongside -- this course, though it is not required.
