Course Introduction

The IU East Richmond Chorale is a vocal ensemble for IU East students and community members. The Chorale gives 1-3 performances per semester on the IU East campus or in the surrounding region.

Rehearsal and Registration Information

This site is for community member registration. IU East students should register for MUS-X 70 this spring for either 0,1 or 2 credits. Students can register by clicking here . All community members must be 18+ to participate.

Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings in Vivian Auditorium in Whitewater Hall from 6-7:45 pm. Rehearsals begin August 27. Registration will remain open until October 31st.

For those joining late, you can still participate in the RSO-Fauré concert on March 29. We'll begin rehearsing it on October 29, using the 7-7:45 block of rehearsal.

Concerts and Repertoire

  • December 6/7: Holiday Concert and Singalong, Friends Fellowship Community and Depot District Christmas Festival
    • Holiday favorites including Carol of the Bells, T'was the Night Before Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy, S'Vivon, Someday at Christmas, Merry Christmas Darling
  • February 8: Valentine’s Day Elizabethan Dinner, Reid Center
    • Elizabethan-era madrigals such as Come Again Sweet Love, Fair Phyllis, Now o Now I Needs Must Part, Greensleeves
  • March 29: combined concert (Earlham College Choirs, RSO Singers) with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Civic Hall
    • Fauré’s Requiem

Learning Outcomes

Participants in this course will be able to:

  • Analyze the structure and context of varied musical works and their implications for performance
  • Develop personal interpretations that consider creators’ intent
  • Evaluate and refine personal and ensemble performances, individually or in collaboration with others
  • Perform expressively, with appropriate interpretation and technical accuracy, and in a manner appropriate to the audience and context

Director Bio

Photo of Jessica Raposo

Jessica Raposo is chair of the Fine and Performing Arts department at Indiana University East, where she teaches classes in performance, music theory and history, and directs the IU East Richmond Chorale. A classical flutist by trade, she began her work in choral music in church music ministry, first as a singer and instrumentalist, then as a director of traditional, folk and youth choirs in Vancouver (Canada) and Connecticut. She directed the IU East Richmond Chorale from 2016-2019, and is delighted to return to the group this year. Dr. Raposo holds music degrees from the University of Michigan, the Royal Academy of Music, and the University of British Columbia, and is a certified K-12 music educator. She completed additional conducting training at the International Workshops in Stavanger, Norway, and the Choral Conducting Symposium at the University of Michigan.
