Course Introduction
The IU East Pep Band supports campus life and athletic events at Indiana University East, and often also performs in the surrounding community.
Rehearsal, Registration and Schedule Information
This site is for community member registration. IU East students should register for MUS-X 40 this spring for either 0,1 or 2 credits. Students can register by clicking here . All members must be 18+ to participate.
Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursdays in Vivian Auditorium in Whitewater Hall from 4-5:15 pm. Rehearsals begin August 27. Once basketball season begins, rehearsals will be reduced to accommodate the game schedule. The band is not required to be at all home games; the specific schedule will be determined in the first few weeks of each semester.

Participants in this course will be able to:
- Analyze the structure and context of varied musical works and their implications for performance
- Develop personal interpretations that consider creators’ intent
- Evaluate and refine personal and ensemble performances, individually or in collaboration with others
- Perform expressively, with appropriate interpretation and technical accuracy, and in a manner appropriate to the audience and context

Director Bio
Mark teaches band and steel band in the Richmond Community Schools. He has his Bachelor's degree in performance from Miami University ('13) and his Master's of Music in Performance from Bowling Green State University ('18). He has performed and taught throughout the Midwest. with notable performances at Carnegie Hall, Ford Field, and the Peristyle in Toledo, OH.
Mark has been an active educator since 2012. Teaching appointments include Low Brass Mentor with the Detroit Youth Wind Symphony program, the Academy Band at BGSU, Brass Studio instruction at the Richland Academy of the Arts, in addition to private studios in northwestern and southwestern Ohio, and southeastern Indiana.
Mark is active in our area as a musician, playing with the Richmond Jazz Orchestra (RJO) and the Eaton Area Community Band. Recently the RJO has released a CD titled Big Band Saturday Night, available on CD and streaming services, where he has been featured as a soloist. He has directed music at Richmond Civic Theater, such as Elf in 2022, and Rent in 2023. Mark currently leads the Back Row Tuba Quartet, a quartet of local tuba and euphonium players.
