Course summary:
Working or volunteering for your community is important, and being equipped to do your job safely is essential. This course will provide a community-level, basic introduction to recognizing hazards that you may encounter with opioid-associated items while you are volunteering or working in parks within your community. To better help you understand the factors associated with the U.S. Opioid Epidemic, this course first provides an overview of opioid drugs, and why these drugs have caused an epidemic.
Course objectives:
After completing this course, learners should be able to:
- Categorize prescription opioids and non-prescription opioids.
- Describe the scope of the opioid epidemic in the United States.
- Identify hazards associated with opioid-associated items.
- Describe disease transmission of HIV and hepatitis C.
- Describe what it means to be observant and proactive, and how to communicate safety risks you see.
Recommended background:
There are no prerequisites for this course; all are welcome.
