Course summary:

"History is all around us." This is the fourth course in the History of the National Park Service series, which takes you on a journey through time from the first federal land set aside for preservation to the newest sites in the NPS System.

Course objectives:

After completing this course, learners should be able to:

  • Be able to articulate the goals of the National Park Service since 2016.
  • Know the new parks which have been established since 2016.
  • Be able to articulate how the goals of the NPS line up with the establishment of new parks.
  • Describe the legislative measures that affected the conservation and preservation efforts of the National Park Service.
  • List the expansionism of the National Park Service in the 1970s.
  • Describe the impacts of the Vail Agenda.

Recommended background:

There are no prerequisites for this course; all are welcome.
