Course summary:
Clean air is an integral part of ecosystems and the natural quality of wilderness character. It is not only an essential component of the habitat for plants and animals; it also contributes to visitors' wilderness experience, affording clear vistas and suggesting primeval character. This course discusses the natural resource management techniques relevant to air quality in wilderness.
Course objectives:
After completing this course, learners should be able to:
- Explain the legal foundation for managing air quality resources in wilderness.
- Recognize potential threats to air quality in wilderness.
- Identify management responsibilities and strategies.
- Describe the purpose and availability of several monitoring programs developed for air quality.
Recommended background:
It is strongly recommended that you complete the free The Wilderness Act of 1964 and the Minimum Requirements Analysis courses before beginning this course. It is recommended that you also complete Natural Resource Management in Wilderness: Fundamentals before beginning the course.
