Course Introduction

This course describes commonly misused substances and their specific effects on the brain and other body organs as well as their impact on society. We discuss current best practices for treatment.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
    • Indicate the prevalence of and contributing factors for addictions.
    • Explain how non-confrontational approaches can be used to address challenging behaviors of persons with substance use disorders.
    • Articulate ways to honor cultural differences in approaching substance use disorders.
    • Summarize effective treatment for addictions.
    • Describe employment considerations and supports for persons with addictive disorders.

Enrollment Details

This course will be offered four times each year. The cost is $99.00.

Registration for each course will open in the month prior to training.  Earn professional development credits (CE units, CRCs, PGP hours) upon course completion. The course takes approximately 5 hours to complete.

  • Understanding the Brain on Drugs
  • Treatment, Recovery and Relapse
  • Employment Considerations for Individuals with Substance Use Disorders

Trainees can move through content modules at their own pace within the course timeframe. Trainees are allowed to finish the course prior to its conclusion date.
