Course Introduction

This course explains how to consider the specific characteristics of personality disorders and how they can affect interpersonal relations. We discuss career counseling and planning using motivational interviewing techniques, as well as preparation for, and obtainment of, successful employment. We discuss some techniques for dealing with conflict and drama, ensuring that you can remain objective and practice self-care.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
  • Distinguish between personality traits and personality disorders.
  • Identify clusters, essential features, and common behavioral issues of personality disorders.
  • Recognize the ways culture can affect how personality disorders are experienced.
  • Identify how the view and approach to personality disorders have changed through the years.
  • Explain strategies for vocational counseling and guidance.
  • including motivational interviewing with a person with a personality disorder.
  • Describe how features of each personality disorder can affect vocational abilities and cause issues on a job.
  • Explain common treatment strategies for persons with personality disorders.
  • Recognize how to deal with drama and conflict that may occur.
  • Identify how to practice self-care.
  • Identify how the dual diagnosis of personality disorder and substance abuse can manifest in employment settings.

This course will be offered four times each year. The cost is $99.00.

Registration for each course will open in the month prior to training.  Earn professional development credits (CE units, CRCs, PGP hours) upon course completion. This course takes approximately 5 hours to complete.

Trainees can move through content modules at their own pace within the course timeframe. Trainees are allowed to finish the course prior to its conclusion date.
