Course Introduction
This recorded webinar explains what communication disorders are, how they may appear, and highlights how stigma creates barriers to employment. We also show how organizations can benefit from hiring qualified candidates with communication disorders by using Universal Design and making simple accommodations.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:- Define communication disorders and how they are diagnosed.
- Identify the function and importance of language.
- Recognize different types of communication disorders, potential causes, and management strategies.
- Recognize the roles cultural and psychosocial factors play in its manifestation, treatment, and stigma.
- Identify universal design principles and accommodations that support applicants with communication disorders.
- Explain how you can support employees with communication disorders to promote well-being and productivity.
- Describe how supporting employees with communication disorders benefits your organization.
Enrollment Details
This course will be offered in quarterly cohorts, with closure on the last day of the third month. Cohorts include February through April, May through July, August through October, and November through January. The cost is $49.00.
Registration for each course will open for a three month period. The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete.
SHRM and HRCI credits:
- HRCI: This program has been approved for 1 HR (General) recertification credit hour toward aPHR®, aPHRi™, PHR®, PHRca®, SPHR®, GPHR®, PHRi™, and SPHRi™ recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
- SHRM: This program has been approved for 1 SHRM Professional Development Credits. Please follow the instructions under the Certificate tab in this course to generate your certificate for proof of course completion.

Trainees can move through content modules at their own pace within the course time frame. Trainees are allowed to finish the course prior to its conclusion date.
