The course is open to anyone, but will be especially helpful for those working or completing advanced training in science or health.
FAQs:
Why would I do this?
Currently, science and medicine face several modern-day threats, including the erosion of public trust in scientists and medical professionals. Some people may perceive scientists and physicians as disconnected from the everyday experiences of the lay public. This has increased skepticism, allowing mis- and dis-information to spread. This course will help you address these issues one conversation at a time.
What's the course about?
This training course will help you develop your communication skillset, enabling you to connect with the public on a personal level and build trust around topics related to science and medicine.
What is the format?
The training course includes both this asynchronous, online course here in Canvas and a synchronous session to help you practice.
How much time will this take?
The asynchronous online part of the course will take 1-2 hours, and it can be self-paced to fit your schedule. You can start and stop at any time.
Afterwards, we'll ask you to join a 1-hour, online Zoom session to practice and refine your communication skills with communication experts and fellow participants.
