Course Introduction
Teaching for Student Success: An Evidence-Based Approach provides a framework for teaching and learning grounded in empirical research. Whether you’re a new instructor or have been teaching for years, teach face-to-face, hybrid, or online, these modules will help you articulate your own teaching philosophy and better serve your students, regardless of discipline.
As you work through these modules, you’ll be guided in effectively documenting your own excellence in teaching within the context of evidence-based principles. You will also have the opportunity to complete artifacts supporting your professional goals that can be included as part of a teaching portfolio, an application for tenure, or a performance review.
Building on President McRobbie’s charge to better support excellence in teaching and learning at IU, this module series contributes to a vision of a university culture of teaching and learning that is grounded in a body of research that explains what really works.

Meet the Designers
To support faculty teaching, Michael Morrone (Director of FACET), Becky Torstrick (Senior Assistant Vice President for University Academic Affairs and Director, Office of Completion and Student Success), and Stacy Morrone (Associate Vice President for Learning Technologies, Office of the Vice President for IT and CIO) identified a need for a comprehensive resource about evidence-based teaching that would integrate opportunities for faculty to document their evidence-based teaching practices. To create this resource, this group assembled teaching and learning experts from across the university, led by Robin K. Morgan (Director of the Institute for Learning and Teaching Excellence, IU Southeast) as part of a FACET Bender Fellowship.
This collaborative effort brought together the expertise of educators, leaders, designers, and resource and technology specialists. Together, we have over 200 years of experience educating or supporting educators.
