Course Introduction

Welcome to the S.T.A.R. Program's Resident Peer Leader Training Course!

Here, you will learn how to become a Peer Support Group Leader and implement your own Peer Support Program through this video based training curriculum! Please start the course by watching the introductory video, and then going to "modules" section. Each module has an associated training video to watch, followed by a set of knowledge retention questions. Please complete all modules and questions sequentially. You may take the quizzes as many times you need to order to answer all questions correctly. You will receive a certificate upon completion.

The last module will have information on next steps to implementing peer support in your program. All necessary reference documents are attached to the last module. Feel free to download, print, or save these for later use during sessions.

Thank you again and we hope you find this course helpful in leading peer support sessions in your residency program!

Meet the Creators

To support peer support group utilization for resident physicians, this course was created to allow asynchronous access and standardization of the peer support training curriculum. This course was based off multiple sources used for peer support leader training, and is the cumulative and collaborative effort of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Emergency Medicine's (DEM) peer support groups for faculty during COVID, residency peer support groups, and malpractice peer support groups. The creation of these video modules to specifically demonstrate peer support leader concepts was led by Dr. Kyra Reed (Department of Emergency Medicine, Assistant Program Director, IUSM Emergency Medicine Residency Program), with support from the Department of Emergency Medicine and Healthcare Initiatives, with script writing as a collaborative effort from multiple Department of Emergency Medicine faculty peer support leaders and IUSM EM resident peer support leaders.

Audience: Resident Physicians
