Full course description
At Indiana University, engagement with international students, scholars, and institutions has long been a cornerstone of the university's mission. We have and will continue to advocate forcefully for this critical engagement.
However, driven by concerns related to Malign Influence and its impact on federally funded research, Congress and federal funding agencies are promulgating an ever-increasing set of related laws, rules, and regulations.
Concerns related to malign influence include:
- Failure to disclose. Failure to disclose research support from, and affiliations with, other organizations, including foreign governments may lead to misappropriation of resources and/or present a conflict of interest or commitment.
- Illicit or unethical diversion of intellectual property or confidential information to foreign entities. We all have a responsibility to uphold IU's core value of sustainability, stewardship, and accountability for the natural, human, and economic resources and relationships entrusted to us.
- Transnational repression. The censorship or harassment of foreign scholars at Indiana University by one's home country is counter to IU's values of academic freedom and diversity of thought and ideas.
