LARC BRTC ABSL-2 Online & In Person Training course

PLEASE READ DETAILS!

For the safety and protection of the trainee,  IACUC approval is now required prior to attending LARC BRTC ABSL-2 training.  Email larchaz@iu.edu to inquire about scheduling training. The trainee will be notified within 24 to 48 hours to see if training can proceed.  Those who are not IACUC approved, will be withdrawn from the course.  After IACUC approval, it will be up to the associate to register for this class.  

What is this course about?

This is an approximately 30 minute course that will cover the procedures and processes which are required when working in the Animal Biosafety Level 2 (ABSL-2) animal housing rooms.   This course includes an online presentation that will discuss topics such as room entry, personal protective equipment, and bagging of cages.

In addition to the online portion, a physical tour of the facility will occur during the date and time in which you have signed up.

This course may be taken any time before the course deadline, and is comprised of:

  1. A 13 minute presentation covering the procedures and processes which are required when working in ABSL-2.
  2. A quiz, where a final grade of 100% is required to pass the course
  3. A brief in-person tour of the room in which your animals will be housed.

 Who should attend this course?

This course will be most useful for any research faculty and staff who need access to the BRTC ABSL-2 rooms in the LARC facility

What are the prerequisites for this course?

The pre-requisite of this course is to be IACUC approved to work with animals, the online presentation and quiz which must be completed prior to attending the physical, in-person tour. LARC BSL2 ABSL-2 Training is required for rodent BRTC ABSL-2 housing access. Please sign up for this class at least 24 hours in advance.

Helpful Tips

The LARC BRTC ABSL-2 Training courses are facility specific. You are required to register and attend multiple basic training courses if the research animals you'll be working with are housed in more than one facility.

If the course location is listed as TBA (to be announced), this means that the course location will be announced to participants by the instructor prior to or day of class time.
