Building Incident Management Training (BIMT)

Jul 30 - Dec 21, 2018

Full course description

This is a 1.5 hour class.  It is highly likely that at some point you will see or be impacted by and emergency incident occurring in the building where you work. Students and guests will look to you for guidance as to what they should do. It is important that you are familiar with your building’s Emergency Action Plan as well as the roles of the Emergency Control Committee members (even more so if you have signed up to be on the ECC!).

We will discuss the fundamentals of building emergency action plans including basic response to:

  • Fire alarm;
  • Severe weather;
  • Medical emergency;
  • Earthquake;
  • Bomb threat;
  • Chemical spill;
  • Hostile intruder/Active Shooter;
  • Emergency communications; and
  • Terrorism/criminal intent.

We will also discuss how these procedures are adapted for those who may need assistance during an emergency such as those in a wheel chair or with other mobility needs. This interactive discussion will also include time at the end to discuss specific circumstances of various buildings.

Offered by IU Human Resources (HR)
