It is the policy of Indiana University that all new Staff and Temporary employees have their criminal background information verified as a condition of employment. In addition, the university’s Programs Involving Children policy requires that current employees covered by the policy complete a criminal background check every five years. This workshop is geared towards employees who are responsible for ordering criminal background checks and/or supervisors who are responsible for hiring new employees. In this workshop, we will cover:

  • The background check policies for Staff & Temporary employees;
  • The background check consent and authorization forms;
  • How to order a criminal background check;
  • The criminal background check process, and why some checks take longer than others;
  • Guidelines regarding international employees; and
  • Review the GIS system and provide useful tips.
