Course Introduction

This online class is to provide IU employees involved in activities related to hazardous and biological materials transportation with comprehensive guidance for regulatory compliance.  Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) regulations (49 CFR Parts 170-180) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as published in the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Dangerous Goods regulation is a requirement for any person who offers a hazardous material for shipment.  Non-compliance with the federal HMR can result in civil or even criminal penalties for the University and the invidual(s) responsible for the violation.  This course satisfies the DOT requirements for training. 

Learning Outcomes

After completing the module, you will be able to:

  • Properly and safely handle, document, package, and transport biological materials per requirements, including shipments of materials on dry ice
