Course Introduction

This course is intended to provide an overview of the IU Hot Work Program to ensure that any temporary work operations involving open flames or the production of heat/sparks that are capable of initiating fires or explosions is conducted safely to minimize the accidental fires, loss of life, loss of property or injury.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the module, you will be able to:

  • Know and understand how to prevent accidental fires, loss of life, loss of property or injury from exposures to sparks, heat or flames during any Hot Work activities

Module Topics Include

  • General hazards associated with Hot Work activities
  • IU Hot Work Permit Program procedures
  • Roles of personnel for the Hot Work Program, including: hot work operator, permit issuing unit, and fire watch.
